•Frost Tolerance: Top might die out in winter, bottom needs protection in
the coldest part of the range, roots hardy to 10°F (-12°C)
•Sun Exposure: Full sun
•Origin: Southern Brazil, Paraguay
•Growth Habits: Evergreen vine, 25-30 feet long
•Watering Needs: Likes lots of water, moist soil, and prefers a humid environment
•Blooming Habits: The blue flowers in summer to fall, are 2 inches
across. They are followed by edible fruit on hot summers
(like here in Phoenix). The fruit has an orange rind containing red seeds.
This plant is the exclusive food for the Gulf Fritillary Butterfly
caterpillers
